GDLC Ratings - Aston Villa (H)

Updated: Feb 14

"Chance personified as a controlling power in human affairs."

The definition?

'Lady Luck'.

.....and, from a Southampton viewpoint, she was nowhere to be seen on Saturday evening!

Saints eventually lost 1-0 to Aston Villa, after what can only be described as a 'frustrating night at the office'.

While it arguably took Ralph Hasenhüttl's side 70 minutes to really start testing Emiliano Martinez in the Villa goal, the match will be remembered for more VAR inconsistency*.

Saints were denied an early penalty for handball against Matty Cash, before a 94th minute strike from Danny Ings was ruled out for offside. Both decisions appearing to be very tight calls!

(*....thanks to the humans that operate it - not the technology itself!)

Ultimately it was Saints third Premier League defeat in a row - and yet another game where they failed to register a (legitimate) goal.

Based on his latest GDLC Player Ratings, it was clear Glen felt some of the team could/should have contributed more, particularly in attacking areas:

Alex McCarthy - 7

James Ward-Prowse - 6

Jan Bednarek - 7 (GDLC Man of the Match)

Jack Stephens - 7

Ryan Bertrand - 7

Oriol Romeu - 6

Ibrahima Diallo - 5

Stuart Armstrong - 6

Theo Walcott - 4

Nathan Redmond - 4

Danny Ings - 5

Ché Adams - 6

Moussa Djenepo - 6

Alex Jankewitz - N/A
