Pre-season begins

Pre-season training kicked off at Staplewood on Tuesday (18th August), only 3 weeks after the final 2019-20 Premier League fixture against Sheffield United.

Due to the quick turnaround time, in light of the current 'Coronavirus climate', Saints players were given just a couple of weeks holiday to relax and recharge.

Among the familiar faces returning were Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu, Shane Long and Jack Stephens.

According to reports in The Athletic, neither Guido Carrillo or Mario Lemina were asked to report back for training - partly due to quarantine measures in place around the world and partly due to the fact both are likely to leave Saints, either permanently or on loan, in the very near future.

The new 2020-21 Premier League season kicks-off on September 12th, with the eagerly awaited fixture lists released on August 20th.

Ralph Hasenhüttl will be starting his 14th season as a manager.

Since 2007 - with 5 different Clubs - the Austrian has overseen more than 400 senior games.
