As every Saints fan will know, our number 7 shirt is full of history and legend.
Over the years, Mick Channon, Bobby Stokes, Terry Paine, Alan Ball, Kevin Keegan and Matthew Le Tissier have all represented the Club while wearing it.
It’s been responsible for some of the most glorious moments Saints have ever had.
A more recent incumbent of that shirt is a man who, in over 230 games for Saints, scored 117 goals.
Who am I talking about?
'Southampton's goal machine', Rickie Lambert, of course!
On a recent podcast (TSP141), the former Bristol Rovers and Liverpool star join Ben Stanfield to chat 'all things Saints FC'.
Having enjoyed such a successful career at St. Mary's - it was a great chance to hear so many thoughts and stories from Rickie, about his time on the South Coast.
Conversation covered joining the Club, working on his fitness, the impact of Alan Pardew, Nigel Adkins and Mauricio Pochettino, proving himself to those who doubted him, arriving in the Premier League and scoring THAT goal for England.
If you've not had a chance to listen to the Podcast then you can find it here:
Alongside his 117 goals for Saints, Rickie celebrated:
A Wembley win
Two golden boots.
Two ‘Southampton Fans Player of the Season’ awards.
One PFA League One Fans Player of the Year award.
One Football League Championship Player of the Year award.
An England call-up.
An International debut goal!
Not bad, eh! So, if you'd like to spend 75 minutes reminiscing about one of the most enjoyable periods in Saints 135-year history, why not give the Podcast a listen!
